What is Hatha Yoga?

In Sanskrit, ‘Hatha’ is formed from two words: ‘Ha’ denoting the ‘sun’, i.e. a positive force, and ‘tha’ denoting the ‘moon’, i.e. a negative force. The balance between these two elements fosters good health. A Hatha Yoga session consists of a sequence of units: relaxation ‘savasana’, postures – exercises ‘asanas’, breathing techniques ‘pranayama’ and meditation ‘dhyana’. The Hatha Yoga balance the nervous system, calms down the mind and de-stresses the self.
